The 2019 edition of the International Girls in ICT Day, which was organized by eBusiness Life Communication Limited, the media organization that publishes eBusiness Life Magazine held on May 16, 2019 at the Ballroom of the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.

12 schools were among the about 200 attendees that participated in this year's event, among which were about 120 students from the different schools.

As part of activities to mark the Day, SS1 grade students from participating schools had to take part in a Website Development and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Quiz competitions.

Corporate partners included the telecom regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); telecoms operators, Globacom and MTN Nigeria and Access Bank Plc. Other partners included VDT, Medallion Communications, Interswitch, SystemSpecs Software, CWG Plc and Vodacom Business.

Representatives of the NCC and Minister of Communications were present to deliver papers and support the girls.

The girls were encouraged to be part of the revolution in the global ICT industry, and be innovative to be able to fit into the ICT-driven future.

The day also saw the organizer give out Awards to deserving women in the information and communication technology field.

Also as part of the incentive for the first prize winners in the Website Development and STEM Quiz competitions in the just concluded 2019 edition of the International Girls in ICT Day Celebration organized by eBusiness Life Communication Limited, a field trip to the Corporate office of Vodacom Business Nigeria (Africa) was undertaken by some female students from the winning school.

The field trip, which held on June 13, 2019, afforded the 10 female students from Chrisland College (Website Development Winner) and Grace High School (STEM Quiz Winner), accompanied by the school teachers, the opportunity of being trained in ICT related fields. The students were chosen from Senior Secondary one (SS1) class, comprising Art, Commercial and Science students.

The field trip, which among others, was aimed at further encouraging the students to choose a career in ICT, also provided the students with first-hand experience of new technologies that are driving the world's largest economies. These include IoT & Smart Home technology, Artificial & Virtual Reality, Machine Learning, Automation, Big Data and Physical & Digital integration, among others.

Senior Manager, Product Portfolio, Vodacom Business Nigeria, Funke Atanda took the students on a journey through the technologies that will shape the future and encouraged them to ensure that they are well equipped with ICT know-how so as to be part of the future digital revolution.

The students had a practical hands-on experience on Virtual Reality, and were afforded the opportunity to ask questions.

Other mentors who spoke to the girls included Vodacom Nigeria's Commercial Director, Solomon Ogufere; Convener of the eBusiness Life International Girls in ICT event, and CEO of eBusiness Life Communications Limited, Ufuoma Emuophedaro and Director, Legal and Company Secretary, Kola Fayemi.

Thereafter, the students were taken on facility tour and further enlightenment of the company's operations and Server Room.

Special recognition was given to the two students who represented the schools in the website development and STEM Quiz competitions and gifts given them. The students were Ikwuoria Daniella and Peterside Alakere.
